The EU–Latin Business Forum is pleased to announce its upcoming Trade Mission to Sonora, Mexico, taking place in January 2026. Organized with the full support of the Government of Sonora and under the framework of the ambitious Plan Sonora for Sustainable Energy, this initiative reflects our mission: to strengthen the competitiveness of European and Mexican value chains through strategic cooperation.
Sonora is rapidly positioning itself as North America’s new hub for clean energy, electromobility, and lithium. With abundant solar resources, flagship renewable energy projects, and lithium reserves of global relevance, the region offers unparalleled opportunities for European businesses seeking to expand their role in the green and digital transitions.
In preparation for the Trade Mission, the EU–Latin Business Forum will host a series of weekly online briefing sessions every Tuesday from October 14 to November 11, 2025. The next one will be this tuesday 20th october at 20hrs Brussels time. These sessions will provide European companies with strategic insights on Plan Sonora, sector opportunities in clean energy, electromobility, and lithium, as well as practical information on logistics, government engagement, and B2B matchmaking. Participants will gain the knowledge and connections needed to make the most of their journey to Mexico in January 2026.
This trade mission—endorsed at the highest levels of government—will include:
High-level dialogues with Sonora’s leadership and federal representatives.
On-site visits to strategic infrastructure, industrial parks, and renewable energy projects.
Curated B2B matchmaking sessions connecting European firms with Mexican partners across energy, mobility, and advanced manufacturing.
For European companies, this is more than a visit: it is a unique gateway into North America’s most dynamic development plan, and a chance to consolidate leadership in electromobility value chains while ensuring compliance with sustainability demands and competitiveness in global markets.

General Itinerary (10 Days)
Day 1 – Arrival in Mexico City
Welcome briefing at the EU–Latin Business Forum office in CDMX.
Introductory session with Mexico’s federal agencies (Economy, Energy, Foreign Affairs).
Networking dinner with European chambers and local stakeholders.
Day 2 – Mexico City (Government & Policy)
Meetings with national authorities on trade, investment, and sustainability frameworks.
Policy briefing on Plan Sonora and its role in the national energy transition.
Evening: free time or cultural activity (historic center).
Day 3 – Travel to Hermosillo, Sonora
Flight to Hermosillo.
Welcome session by the Government of Sonora.
Meeting with Sonora’s Governor and Economic Development team.
Reception dinner hosted by the State of Sonora.
Day 4 – Hermosillo (Business & Industry)
Visits to industrial clusters: electromobility, automotive, and batteries.
B2B matchmaking sessions with Sonoran SMEs and European participants.
Sector briefing on incentives and industrial parks.
Day 5 – Hermosillo (Innovation & Universities)
Presentations by local universities and R&D centers on sustainability and innovation.
Roundtable with LitioMx and energy regulators.
Evening: networking dinner with Sonora Chamber of Commerce.
Day 6 – Guaymas (Port & Logistics)
Travel to Port of Guaymas.
Site visits to upgraded port facilities, logistics corridors, and potential export hubs.
Meeting with shipping/logistics stakeholders.
Return to Hermosillo.
Day 7 – Puerto Peñasco (Clean Energy Focus)
Visit to the Puerto Peñasco Solar Park, one of Latin America’s largest renewable projects.
Technical briefing on solar PV integration, grid connections, and regional opportunities.
Sunset networking at the site (informal).
Day 8 – Hermosillo (Government & Policy Outcomes)
Debrief session with Sonora’s state authorities.
Discussion on agreements, MOUs, and next steps for EU–Mexico cooperation.
Press event and joint statement highlighting EU participation.
Day 9 – Return to Mexico City
Wrap-up session with federal officials.
Briefing on national programs (IMMEX, CBAM alignment, USMCA rules of origin).
Evening: closing dinner with invited guests.
Day 10 – Departure from Mexico City
Free morning for individual follow-ups or cultural visits.
